The Ugly Duckling, Toyota's FJ. PDF Print E-mail

Last weekend, while at camp in Lake George with my soon to be wife, I took a drive down the "strip".  On the short 3 miles or so that it takes up, I saw what seemed to be a unproportionately high number of Toyota FJ's.  About half of them blue, plus an occasional red and yellow one.  I don't know about you, but I think this vehicle ranks right up there with the Pontiac Aztech in terms of styling.  That is to say, UGLY!  I realize that the painted white top is supposed to be a sort of nostalgic look.  Going back to the days when tops were added to offroad vehicles as an after thought.  Usually by some third party manufacturer.  But, still, I don't see why anybody would like this.

From what I hear though, the vehicles offroad capability is pretty high.  It appears to have a decent amount of ground clearance, and I've been told that it has a nice tight turning radius.  Overall, for offroad capability, the FJ gets pretty good marks.  But, for styling and functionality, it's not so good.  In my opinion, if you want to drop a good deal of money on a trail capable vehicle, look elsewhere.  I wouldn't be caught dead driving one of these things.
