After a week of no news from Glenn, there has been an update on Project CJ-Metro. Got the body on the frame. I even have 2 bolts between the 2 right now! I just have to cut and reweld the rear body mounts underneath a hole in the body, and add 2 more bolts. I'm slowly getting more done before winter. Looks like good progress. I'm looking forward to seeing the end result. Let's see how far Glenn makes it before winter strikes, and work slows down. Here are some pictures of the progress. Larger pics can be seen in Glenn's photo gallery.

Glenn has made some good progress on his Project CJ-Metro. Turns out, he has gotten the CJ-7 frame, and the Geo Metro body united for the first time. "The body WILL be lowered a bit. I ran out of time as I got the 4x4's out from under the body. Depending on how much bodylift I install, the front will go down 4-7" and the rear 1-4." Here is a picture of the progress as it stands today: |

There have been some updates on Project CJ-Metro. Here are the updates. Manifolds have been installed. Mating fo the tranmission to the motor has been completed. Test fit #1 completed. Firewall cuts determined. Firewall cuts completed. Test fit #2. Also as Glenn says: "I did buy hockey pucks at play it again sports, guy there said he sells more pucks to 4x4 guys than hockey players, lol." I guess we know why play it again sports stocks so many hockey pucks now. |

We have an update from Glenn and his CJ-Metro project. Here is what Glenn writes: Finally got the motor is proper position. Had to move it forward 12" to clear the Metro firewall. My friend ran out of gas while welding the motor mounts, so they are not braced yet. The T-case skid had holes narrow enough so I could drill solidly into the frame to secure it. The driveshafts are now 26" and 29" at rest, making a better angle to the rear. I will make homemade shafts after I flex it out and get the proper size.
I also did much more work to the body. I pulled all the wires unneeded to run things like headlights, etc. Also have the whole front end and rear suspension cutout. I'm hoping to test fit it this weekend.

I'm always looking for some interesting articles to write about. Well, I think I've found a very interesting one. Here are the specs on it: 1979 CJ-7 1984 CJ-7 Frame AMC 360 Motor TH400 Automatic Transmission Quadra-Trac Transfer Case Dana 35 Front Axle AMC 20 Rear Axle (3.73 Gears) So, you're probably thinking, ok, here is another CJ-7 restoration project. That's where you are wrong. It's an offroad buildup of sorts. I say sorts because Glenn is going to put a Geo Metro body onto the CJ-7 Chassis. After doing his research, he discovered that "the Metro and CJ-7 have the same wheelbase, and thought how funny it would be to make one of the smallest cars out there a capable off-roading 4x4." The pictures below were taken shortly after the frame was welded back together and the wheels were put back under it.
I'm interested to see the outcome of this project. Like Glenn, I think it will be very amusing to see this project completed and on the trail. It ranks right up there with the Willard Mountain Beetle 4x4. I just love oddball rigs. Good luck Glenn, we'll be tracking your progress! Comments (0) | Quote this article on your site |
